You can begin your adventure through time and space to find out about your Ukrainian ancestors and knowing about your immediate family will help you get started.
To find your ancestors, you should know:
- Where and when your grandparents were born, got married, and died.
- Any additional information, such as where they lived, their religion, and their social class.
Information about Ukrainian ancestors you can find on the Internet is just a little part of what you can find in Ukrainian archives. For example, just in the Zaporozhye archive, there are more than 2000 files of people from 1799–1922.
Because the records are hundreds of years old, the search is more difficult and time consuming. That's the down side. But the upside of this method is that by turning to the original source, your information is more reliable and you feel closer to your ancestors.
The addresses of the archives can be found in the section titled Address of Ukrainian Archives.
If you are actively engaged in genealogical work yourself, you can transfer your information to the section titled Who Deals with Genealogy in the Ukraine and Where.
If, for some reason you are having problems with your search, send an e-mail to [email protected]
